Kurt Vonnegut on How to Write a Short Story
1. Use the time of a total stranger in such a way that he or she will not feel the time was wasted.
2. Give the reader at least one character he or she can root for.
3. Every character should want something, even if it is only a glass of water.
4. Every sentence must do one of two things: reveal character or advance the action.
5. Start as close to the end as possible.
6. Be a sadist. No matter how sweet and innocent your leading characters, make awful things happen to them in order that the reader may see what they are made of.
7. Write to please just one person. If you open a window and make love to the world, so to speak, your story will get pneumonia.
8. Give your readers as much information as possible as soon as possible, to heck with suspense. Readers should have such complete understanding of what is going on, where, and why, that they could finish the story themselves, should cockroaches eat the last few pages.

Accepting $ubmissions for the October 2012 Halloween $pecial
Yes, I'm still going to keep trying to publish an e-journal of horror and suspense, and I've even decided I'm going to up the ante - $50 for accepted prose, $25 for poetry, and $6.66 for anything else that may be used. Good luck - check the Guidelines on the site.

LDStorymakers
Had a great time at LDStorymakers: met some publishers and an agent or two and learned a few things along the way... Into the Ether may have a home at Covenant, or one of the other start up publishers at the conference. The Temple of the Dark is still at Genius Publishing... fingers crossed...

World Horror Convention has Disappeared...
...but it was superriffic!
I had some great success pitching my novel, Temple of the Dark, and along with my close associate, Cody "Canyon Shadows" Langille, fun was had by all.
It was also a great opportunity to network with publishers in the horror genre, rub shoulders with some great authors - McCammon, Landsdale, Farland - and just have a good time.
Wish you could have all been there!
